Exclusive: Carroll's Future Secured
Adam Carroll has agreed a deal with Super Nova team boss David Sears which will ensure he can finish the season with the team, Autosport-Atlas can reveal
The deal also gives Carroll an option to stay with Super Nova next year if he is unable to find a race seat in Formula One.
Carroll, whose future was uncertain due to a lack of funds, told Autosport-Atlas: "It's really, really good. We'll just see what happens with next year, but if I need to do GP2 again next year then hopefully I can do it with David.
"It's great news really, which makes a change! I'm just really thankful that David wants to help me and to keep me in the cars - it's helped us all, really. When you get to this level then the money, which came from John, goes from 70,000 a year in Formula Ford to 1.2 million euros - there's a slight difference there!
"So for one person it's impossible - John has done as much as he possibly could, and it's actually quite good that he's got someone else now who can help out."
While the management duo will be looking for a race seat for Carroll in Formula One for next year, the more likely scenario will be to compete in GP2 for another season, preferably combined with a testing role in Formula One.
Carroll is a member of the BAR Young Drivers Programme, and therefore the Honda-powered team would be the most likely option for an increased testing programme.
Sears was clearly pleased to have been able to agree a deal on his driver's future. "I think the whole team is ecstatic to have someone like Adam on board," he told Autosport-Atlas, "because he's a proper team player, and he's a driver who appreciates and respects everything that is done for him.
"I think for the first season so far he has done exceptionally well, and generally his performance have been much stronger than, say, Piquet Jr, who has all the budget in the world, and a test team that go to all of the circuits beforehand which, to me, is an unfair advantage.
"I think Adam's got what it takes to be a Formula One driver. If the team does a good job and he stays on for next year then, if he does that with Formula One testing, that this time next year he should be hopefully lined up in a Formula One seat somewhere.
"I'll be disappointed if he's not."
