Di Grassi backs low-key approach

Lucas di Grassi has said that he is happy to let other drivers grab the headlines while he focuses on being consistent enough to win the GP2 title

The Brazilian has not won a race yet this season, which has seen nine different winners in 13 rounds, but he is only one point behind championship leader Timo Glock.

Di Grassi and Glock are a long way clear of the rest of the field in the standings, but Glock has failed to score points four times this season, while di Grassi has scored in all but one race.

"I'm not here to be the show guy, I'm here to win the championship," said di Grassi. "My strategy is to have a good result in the long term, and it's paying off.

"That's part of how we are in the fight for the championship. I'm not focusing on one weekend, I am administrating my risk."

In recent weeks di Grassi has repeatedly claimed that reigning champions ART have closed the gap to iSport, although the Brazilian was more than half a second adrift of Glock and Andreas Zuber in qualifying at the Hungaroring last weekend.

However, the 22-year-old believes that iSport's advantage is not so big in the race, and he thinks that the British team will be feeling the pressure now that he is only one point behind their lead driver.

"They are faster in qualifying but I am faster at the start and on the first lap, so it's been a very good fight," he said.

"Since Barcelona I have been starting better than Glock and I hope it stays that way.

"I'm very happy because of the championship results we've had so far. We are closer in the championship now, so that's a worry for them and an advantage for us."
