Davies to stand in for Haberfeld
Jamie Davies, who raced in the FIA F3000 series between 1997 and 1999, will race at the Nurburgring this weekend. Regular driver Mario Haberfeld's leg injury will prevent the Brazilian starting at least the next race, and probably the following Monaco event as well
Davies has only today [Wednesday] received clearance from the FIA to take Haberfeld's place, as regulations state that only the driver nominated by the team may be changed. Fortec's changeable driver was Andreas Scheld.
Davies raced with Fortec in F3, and was therefore the natural choice to step in for Haberfeld. The Englishman tested with the team at Snetterton during the lunch break for F3 testing in order to dial himself back into the car. He has not raced since last season's Nurburgring F3000 event.
The team expect Haberfeld not to be fit for the Monaco round a fortnight after Nurburgring, but Davies needs to raise the budget in order to continue.
Fortec is understood to have been approached by a number of drivers to compete in the Monaco event subject to Haberfeld's absence, but Davies is the team's preferred option.
