DAMS pair Lynn and Gasly must 'gang up' on 2015 GP2 rival Vandoorne
GP3 champion Alex Lynn believes he and DAMS team-mate Pierre Gasly will need to "gang up" on GP2 title favourite Stoffel Vandoorne this year
Lynn and Formula Renault 3.5 runner-up Gasly were announced as DAMS' line-up in GP2 on Thursday, and the Briton believes that the two rookies can challenge McLaren Formula 1 junior Vandoorne for the title.
"Stoffel is pretty impressive, and he's going to have a target on his back right from the off," Lynn said on the main stage at AUTOSPORT International.
"I've got a really good team-mate in Pierre - I've known him for a few years now and we're quite good friends.
"I think me and Pierre need to gang up on Stoffel. We've got to try to stop him somehow and I think we've got a good chance."
Lynn believes that ART driver Vandoorne will not have a team-mate as strong as the DAMS drivers, which could help the rookies to attack him.
"If we can push each other forward and then get in amongst it with Stoffel, he won't have as much back-up as we do," he added.
"DAMS have won the championship in three of the last four years, so it's a big opportunity.
"I'm looking to win it in my first year. It's been a long time since Lewis Hamilton [2006] and Nico Hulkenberg [2009] did that.
"Jolyon Palmer [2014 champion] has showed that there's no guarantee of graduating to F1 if you win it, but we've got a few very good things in the pipeline.
"That should give me the opportunity - should I perform - to be in a grand prix seat in a year's time."
