Courtney impresses in Arden test

Former Jaguar F1 tester James Courtney set the fourth quickest time on his International F3000 testing bow at Imola, it is reported in this week's AUTOSPORT

Courtney impresses in Arden test

The Australian tested with champion team Arden International, and set a fastest time of 1m37.641s, some 0.235s quicker than regular driver and F3000 race winner Bjorn Wirdheim.

"The test went really well, " said Courtney. "We did about 60 laps of running on the second day, which was quite a lot, and I felt it was very successful. I enjoyed driving the car. I'd heard quite a few negative things about F3000, but it was a lot of fun. I had to work a lot harder than in an F3 car."

Team boss Christian Horner, himself a former British F3 driver, was impressed with Courtney's performance.

"James did a fantastic job and never put a wheel wrong," said Horner. "He ended the test with a very respectable time, and the impression he made on us was of a driver being very professional and extremely quick."

European Minardi driver Patrick Friesacher was fastest with a time of 1m36.703s
