Carroll out to prove himself in GP2

Adam Carroll believes that he has something to prove on his return to GP2 this weekend at Magny-Cours

The three-time GP2 race winner spent two years in the series before heading to the DTM for this season, but he has been drafted in for this weekend to replace Antonio Pizzonia at FMS.

Despite his previous success in the category, the Ulsterman feels that he has to take advantage of this opportunity.

"The chance came about and I couldn't turn it down," Carroll told autosport.com. "I've got unfinished business in GP2 and I want to prove myself."

Carroll's second season in GP2 was difficult as he raced for the struggling Racing Engineering team, and he decided against a third season in the series when he could not secure a drive with a top team.

However, he believes that the chance to return to the series with a race-winning team is a worthwhile risk.

"You have to take some chances," he added. "People who achieve great things take chances, and we are just going for it.

"I've been brought in to do a job and I have to do it. It's a really good opportunity and I'm not going to let this one go."

The deal is only for this weekend at the moment, and while Carroll hopes he will get more outings with FMS, he is also keen on staying in the DTM.

The 24-year-old has had a difficult time racing for the Futurecom TME team run by Spyker F1 boss Colin Kolles, but he admitted that he would like to have a future with Audi.

"I love Audi and the DTM is great," he said. "I'd love to finish the season, but it's not down to me now. It's between my management and the team.

"I just feel the way things are going this season that I have to do something. "I would hope to be part of Audi for a long time."

Pizzonia could still return to FMS after this weekend, although he will not be at Magny-Cours.

Autosport.com contacted the Brazilian, who could not comment on the matter due to legal reasons.
