Bruni Ready for Title, Says Coloni

Coloni Motorsport team boss Paolo Coloni thinks that, despite the big names on the grid, his driver Gianmaria Bruni is ready and waiting to claim the inaugural GP2 championship

Bruni Ready for Title, Says Coloni

Coloni, who has worked on and off with Bruni since the driver was sixteen years old, rates the ex-Minardi driver as one of the best he has worked with in his many years of team management. When asked if Bruni could win the title, Coloni said: "I think yes, because he's the best driver.

"He's the best driver, and we have done a really good job, so the only problem is reliability."

Reliability problems have caused problems throughout the grid, but Coloni believes that the engineering staff he has this year, including ex-Sauber designer Sergio Rinland, will be able to resolve them.

With just 30 minutes of track time before qualifying set up time is at a premium, but Coloni believes that Bruni will shine in this regard: "So far I am happy with that because at Barcelona on lap one we were already at 90% of what became the fastest lap, and that is very important."

Bruni's teammate Mathias Lauda has had a troubled off-season, and has already been cast as a supporting player to Bruni, but Coloni believes that it is still possible for the Austrian to turn around his performance: "I think that he has the skill to do it, but of course it is a new formula and he has had a few problems that meant he couldn't be running.

"I think he has a great potential. Of course he needs to adapt himself a little bit, and we hope that we can give him some benefit from Gimmi, and to use the experience Mathias had from last year [in Formula 3000]."
