ART Penalised for Illegal Car

ART drivers Nico Rosberg and Alex Premat will start race one at the Hungaroring from the rear of the grid as a result of a protest over the positioning of their steering rack

ART Penalised for Illegal Car

The steering rack, which affects the front suspension as well as the handling of the car in general, was felt to have been run in an illegal position, prompting a protest from one of the other eleven teams at the conclusion of qualifying.

There are two positions available on the cars for the steering rack, one of which necessitates a raising of the ride height of the car to remain within the scope of the technical regulations. It is believed that this was not raised.

The stewards heard an explanation from the team before deciding that the team had not complied with Article 10.1 of the GP2 Technical Regulations, which specifically refer to the compliance of the cars.

ART were given one hour after the decision has been handed down to appeal, but the team were unable to do so within the time allotted. The protest now promotes Neel Jani to pole position, ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and Giorgio Pantano.

Rosberg, who was on pole, and Premat, who was sixth on the grid, will now line up on the back row in Championship order.

Revised grid positions:
