Aleshin realistic for GP2 debut
Mikhail Aleshin has admitted that he is not expecting too much from his GP2 debut this weekend in Spain
The Russian will replace fellow Red Bull-backed driver Michael Ammermuller at reigning champions ART this weekend, as the German has not yet recovered from a wrist injury that he sustained in Bahrain.
Aleshin is a front-runner this year in World Series by Renault, but he is approaching this weekend with caution due to his lack of experience with a GP2 car.
"I'm very excited, but I'm also feeling a little apprehensive," he said. "It's not the ideal way to make my debut, going straight into a race with no testing.
"I don't think I can expect too much in one weekend, but I can't wait to get into a GP2 car."
Aleshin has spoken to his World Series engineer at Carlin Motorsport for advice ahead of this weekend, and he added that he is pleased to have been selected as Ammermuller's replacement.
"I'm delighted and very grateful to have been given the chance to substitute for Michael this weekend," he said. "I hope I can do a good job for the team."
