Abu Dhabi GP2 testing: Latifi fastest for DAMS on final day

Nicholas Latifi propelled himself to the top of the times on the final afternoon of the post-season GP2 Series test at Yas Marina

Abu Dhabi GP2 testing: Latifi fastest for DAMS on final day

The 21-year-old Canadian is expected to remain at DAMS for a second full season in GP2 next year, and has spent all three days of the test with the French team.

His best time from Friday's running is the fastest anyone has set this week, pipping the Wednesday best of Raffaele Marciello - who was not running on the final day - by 0.008 seconds.

Latifi's Friday afternoon time was a relatively comfortable 0.212s clear of second-placed Johnny Cecotto Jr, who has run on all three days of the test with Rapax after contesting last weekend's 2016 season finale with the Italian operation.

Cecotto in turn pipped Jordan King by 0.007s, the Manor Formula 1 protege having his second day with Dutch team MP Motorsport and topping the slower morning session with a run on old tyres.

Fourth fastest was Oliver Rowland, who was out again with DAMS and is hotly tipped to join the squad alongside Latifi next season.

Artem Markelov continued with Russian Time and set fifth fastest time ahead of Prema Racing's Ferrari-backed GP3 graduates Antonio Fuoco and Charles Leclerc.

Sean Gelael was an encouraging eighth fastest on his third day with Arden International, ahead of the ART Grand Prix duo of Alexander Albon and Callum Ilott.

Racing Engineering's drivers were quick in the morning, with Louis Deletraz second fastest behind King, and Gustav Malja fourth behind Cecotto.

Sergio Sette Camara switched for the final day to Carlin, the team with which he took a podium finish in the Macau Grand Prix - although he has already been announced as an MP driver for 2017 - and caused a red flag with a crash at Turn 19 in the morning.
