Vettel pushed for World Series drive
Sebastian Vettel has said that it is vital for him to be able to race elsewhere while performing third driver duties for the BMW Sauber F1 team in 2007
The German became the team's third driver once Robert Kubica was promoted to a race seat, but Vettel believes that it is crucial for him to continue racing.
The 19-year-old will drive on the Friday's of Grand Prix weekends for BMW Sauber, but he will also race for Carlin Motorsport in World Series by Renault.
"For me it is very important to compete, to be on the track with others, to qualify, and to be able to race," said Vettel, who took two wins in the series in a handful of appearances for Carlin last season.
"In 2007 it is very important to take part in some races," he added. "I pushed for this decision because I wanted to race, so that's the reason why I will drive in World Series."
Vettel opted for World Series by Renault because it was not possible to combine a GP2 campaign with his F1 commitments.
However, he believes that he can be competitive despite having to switch between different cars throughout the year.
"If I thought it was impossible to do both (F1 and World Series), I wouldn't have done it," he said.
"But the decision has been made and I will make the best out of it. This title is important to my future success."
