Soucek dominates Valencia testing

Andy Soucek dominated the final two days of Formula Renault 3.5 testing of 2008 at the Valencia circuit on Wednesday and Thursday

The Spanish driver, at the wheel of the RC Motorsport car, topped the times in both sessions as he worked on improving the handling of the machine following an invitation from the Italian squad to assist them during the test.

"I am very happy to be able to help out my friends at RC Motorsport," said Soucek, who raced in GP2 and GP2 Asia in 2008.

"We worked well on the car. It is certainly running well. The car is quick and fun to drive. It's perfect!"

Soucek finished ahead of compatriots Miguel Molina in the Prema car and Marco Barba in the Draco machine.

Another Spaniard, Jaime Alguersuari, was the quickest rookie in the Carlin Motorsport car. The British F3 champion was eighth quickest.

"I'm very happy because I had time to really get to know the car," he said. "Today I really learned how to use the set-up to my advantage and get the best out of the car. This is only my fourth day of testing in a FR 3.5. I think I've shown what I'm capable of.

"We'll see which programme Red Bull chooses," added the Spaniard, who is yet to find out where he will race next season following his F3 success.

Daniil Move and Charles Pic completed the top five as all teams wrapped up their testing programmes for the year.

The next session of collective testing will take place at Jerez in March.
