Oliver Rowland fastest on day two of Jerez Formula Renault 3.5 test

Oliver Rowland set the pace on the second day of Formula Renault 3.5 testing at the Jerez circuit on Tuesday

The British driver, second fastest on Monday, posted a best time of 1m25.396s halfway through the morning session on fresh tyres, and the benchmark went unchallenged for the rest of the day.

His best time was over a second quicker than what pacesetter Jazeman Jaafar had managed on the opening day of the test on Monday.

Rowland's Fortec team dominated the times, with team-mate Sergey Sirotkin - who bemoaned traffic hindering his progress - finishing in second position, less than a tenth off the pace.

Reigning Formula Renault Eurocup champion Pierre Gasly felt he gave away a couple of tenths of a second on his best lap as he went third quickest, ahead of Jaafar and Carlos Sainz Jr, who topped the times in the afternoon session for DAMS.

Unlike most of the other teams, DAMS saved its new tyres for the afternoon running, with Norman Nato completing a team one-two in that session. Sainz's time, however, was 1.4 seconds slower than Rowland's.

The session was red-flagged once when Lotus driver Matthieu Vaxiviere stopped on track right before the end of the morning session.

The test concludes with the final day of FR3.5 pre-season running on Wednesday.
