Motorland Aragon to host race in '09

The Formula Renault 3.5 Series is the first international championship to sign up for a round at the new Motorland Aragon circuit in Alcaniz, Spain

The Spanish circuit, which is due to open in the second half of next season, has confirmed a deal to host rounds of the series in 2009 and 2010.

The 350-hectare Motorland Aragon site will feature eight different circuit layouts, designed by Formula One circuit designer Hermann Tilke and McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa, including the main 5.3-km circuit.

Formula Renault 3.5 will also use the venue for 30 days a year for testing and promotional events.

"Renault and Motorland Aragon share the same determination to make motorsport more accessible and fun for all, so this deal makes complete sense," said Renault Sport's motorsport director Jose Luis Lopez.

"We expect the 2009 season to open at Barcelona and finish at Alcaniz. We're also excited about using the circuit for vehicle development. With eight layouts and a warm climate it would make an ideal base for development work or winter test sessions."
