Moreau returns to Renault series
Guillaume Moreau is set to complete the Formula Renault 3.5 Series season with the SG team, having returned to the championship from this weekend's Silverstone races
The 26-year-old Frenchman drove for KTR in the series for the past two years, winning at Magny-Cours in 2007, but had concentrated on his GT racing programme with Luc Alphand Aventures in the first half of 2009. Moreau took the Le Mans Series GT1 title last season after starting to race sportscars alongside his FR 3.5 commitments.
SG had previously run Formula 3 Euro Series points leader Jules Bianchi and GP2 racer Edoardo Mortara alongside regular driver Anton Nebylitskiy.
The deal rekindles a relationship between SG team boss Stephane Guerin and Moreau that dates back to when Guerin acted as Moreau's mechanic in karting.
"I will try to use all of my experience to help the team move forwards," said Moreau. "It is a bit early to have a result, but we have [my home race at] Le Mans coming up soon. The FIA GT race at Silverstone I did earlier this year was very useful to learn the circuit."
He is confident that he can achieve success with SG.
"I stopped doing World Series when I was at KTR because I thought we weren't improving, in fact our results were going down and my sponsor thought it better to stop," said Moreau.
"This case is completely different. Stephane and I know each extremely well, he was my mechanic in karts, and we started together in Formula Renault 2.0 in 2004 where I scored 13 podiums from 17 races. Afterwards I [went my own way and] lived my life.
"It's incredible how far he has come and it's good story that we are back working together."
