Matias Laine steps up to FR3.5 with P1 Motorsport

GP3 frontrunner Matias Laine will step up to Formula Renault 3.5 with P1 Motorsport for 2013

The Finn, who finished fifth in the Formula 1 support series last year, joins Will Stevens at the team.

"It is a great opportunity for me to race in Formula Renault 3.5" said Laine, who completed four days of FR3.5 testing at the end of 2012.

"After two years in GP3, it is obviously a big step forward in my racing career.

"The P1 car felt really good in testing, I am very confident in the team, and looking forward to the season ahead."

Laine only spent one of his four test days with P1, but the team's chief engineer Mike Henderson believes the 22-year-old made a solid start.

"When Matias tested with P1 he showed great potential within just one day, and he settled in really well with the team and the way we work," said Henderson.

"We're very much looking forward to working with Matias in his rookie season, and achieving some strong results throughout the year."
