Marshal Injured in Monaco Practice

The first thirty minutes of the session went by without major incident until Patrick Pilet spun on his own at the top of the rise towards Casino Square, damaging both ends of his car.

A marshal went on track to attend to the driver as Pastor Maldonado arrived at the corner, which is slightly hidden by the rise. He struck both the marshal and Pilet's car, putting his car into a spin which ended against the barrier on the opposite side of the road.

Matteo Meneghello was the next driver on the spot, and he complained that there were no yellow flags being shown and that there was already a crowd of marshals forming around their stricken colleague. With nowhere to go, he struck the back of Maldonado's car, damaging his suspension.

The session was stopped to allow the marshal to be given medical attention, and with three broken cars and about five others stopped on track at the spot, it took some time to clear.

The remaining ten minutes went by without major incident, and Winklehock was at the top of the times ahead of Saturday's qualifying session.

Details have not yet been released as to the marshal's condition.
