Kevin Magnussen moves to FR3.5 with Carlin for 2012

British Formula 3 runner-up Kevin Magnussen will remain with Carlin for an attack on the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 Series

Magnussen tested for the champion team at Barcelona on October 11-12, setting the fastest time on the first day at the wheel of reigning champion Robert Wickens' car. He tested the team's GP2 machine this week as well.

"It's great to have the chance to drive for Carlin next year in Formula Renault 3.5," said Magnussen. "Every step up the motorsport ladder is a real dream come true for me and I thank my sponsors for this chance.

"It's a big opportunity and I intend on enjoying it and making the most of the upcoming year. I know the team really well and feel completely at home there. I can't wait for the start of the season!"

The 19-year-old Dane confirmed his abilities to Carlin boss Trevor Carlin in British Formula 3 this season, taking six pole positions, seven wins, and leading the most laps of the season - 146 in total.

"He has been extremely impressive in British F3 this year, especially in the second half of the season and is a driver very much in demand," said Carlin. "We're very proud that he has chosen Carlin as the team with which to continue his career and based on his performance in official testing so far, believe he will have no problems at all adapting to the FR3.5 car."

Magnussen took third in the 2010 German F3 championship, and has previously experience of the World Series by Renault package having competed in the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2009.
