Jerez FV8 3.5 testing: GP3 regular Palou fastest on debut

GP3 racer Alex Palou set the fastest time on the final day of the Jerez Formula V8 3.5 test

Jerez FV8 3.5 testing: GP3 regular Palou fastest on debut

Getting his first taste of the category with Teo Martin Motorsport, Palou's 1m26.668s lap was also the quickest recorded over the three days.

"This first experience is just amazing," said Palou, a former EuroFormula Open race winner.

"I wasn't expecting so much grip and power in the braking.

"It's a big step compared to a GP3 car, but it did not take me long to adapt.

"I maybe missed one little tenth in the morning, but I managed to put everything together in the afternoon."

Teo Martin Motorsport drivers topped both of Wednesday's sessions.

Dorian Boccolacci led the way in the morning, and Palou was the only driver to improve in there afternoon.

Roy Nissany was reunited with the Charouz-run Lotus team, with which he took three FV8 3.5 victories in 2016, to end the day third overall.

Egor Orudzhev rekindled his relationship with Arden Motorsport, and was the early pacesetter in the morning session.

Boccolacci and Palou were also swiftly to the fore, but former European Formula 3 driver Boccolacci left it until his final run on new tyres to record his fastest lap of 1m26.719s.

Nissany finished just 0.012 seconds adrift, ahead of Palou and Orudzhev.

Force India Formula 1 development driver Alfonso Celis Jr was unable to take to the track immediately, owing to repairs to his Fortec machine's fuel tank, but recovered to take fifth.

Tuesday pacesetter Pietro Fittipaldi was second to Palou in the afternoon, ahead of Celis.
