Jerez Formula V8 3.5: Fittipaldi claims third 2017 win in race two

Pietro Fittipaldi won his third race of the 2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5 season at Jerez, putting him just one point behind championship leader and Lotus team-mate Rene Binder

Despite starting from pole, Fittipaldi initially lost the lead to SMP Racing by AVF's Egor Orudzhev at the start but managed to regain the position around the outside by the end of the opening lap.

Fittipaldi and Orudzhev then continued to exchange fastest lap times, before both pulled into the pits at the same time as the pitstop window opened.

Ultimately it made no difference to the order and the Lotus driver began to extend his lead, crossing the line four seconds ahead of Orudzhev.

Matevos Isaakyan was third, after spending the race defending from Fortec's Alfonso Celis who could not quite get the pace to match Isaakyan and so just missed out on a spot on the podium in fourth.

Binder held off RP Motorsport's Damiano Fioravanti for fifth place, despite Fioravanti launching an attack in the latter stages of the race.

Teo Martin Motorsport's Konstantin Tereschenko was seventh after a stunning overtake on his team-mate Nelson Mason.

Diego Menchaca and Yu Kanamaru were ninth and 10th respectively, claiming the final points of the day.

Race one winner Roy Nissany had a day to forget after a poor qualifying left him in seventh and he was then forced to retire with mechanical problems shortly after his pitsop.
