Formula Renault 3.5 racer Kevin Korjus moves from Tech 1 to Lotus
Kevin Korjus's move to the Lotus Formula Renault 3.5 team for the rest of the season has been confirmed
It was announced earlier on Tuesday that the Estonian, part of the Lotus Formula 1 team-affiliated Gravity Sport driver scheme, would leave Tech 1 Racing after spending a year and a half with the French outfit, with GP3 runner-up Daniel Abt taking his place ahead of this weekend's round at the Hungaroring.
Gravity hinted at moving Korjus to "another environment", and later confirmed that he will become the latest driver to fill in for Richie Stanaway, who is out for the season with back injuries sustained earlier in the year.
Gravity driver programme manager Gwenael Lagrue said that Korjus, who only has one podium to his name this year after taking three wins in his rookie season with Tech 1, needs to make the most of the move from one frontrunning team to another.
"Today we've taken the decision to enter Kevin with the Lotus team for the rest of the season," said Lagrue.
"Kevin must now seize the opportunity that has been given to him to get back among the frontrunners.
"He's currently ninth in the championship and we're convinced he can do better. First of all, he must regain his self-confidence and that's part of the reason why we think changing teams is good for him."
Two more driver changes for this weekend's Hungarian FR3.5 round involve GP3 racers Aaro Vainio, who joins RFR, and Tamas Pal Kiss, who steps in at BVM Target.
