Barcelona: Zonta takes double win
Ricardo Zonta took a significant step towards securing the inaugural Telefonica World Series title with a double victory in the sixth round of the series in Barcelona
The Brazilian didn't hit the front until the final lap of race one in a dramatic finish. Andre Couto took the lead at the start, closely followed by pole position man Justin Wilson. Zonta bided his time until four laps from home when he passed Wilson on the entry to the first corner. Then, on the final lap, he surprised Couto with an opportunistic move to take victory.
Zonta was again forced to work in race two, as former German F3 champion Bas Leinders led into the first corner. Zonta followed until the mandatory pit-stops, when a terrible turnaround for Leinders allowed his pursuer to take the lead which he would hold to the finish.
"It has been a perfect weekend for me and my team," said Zonta. I have to confess that I won the second race thanks to the pit-stop."
Wilson came home fifth in race two behind Franck Montagny and third-placed Jean-Christophe Ravier.
Zonta now leads the standings by 47 points from Leinders, with Wilson well out of contention in fourth overall.
