Auto GP star Sergey Sirotkin joins ISR for Formula Renault 3.5

Auto GP race-winner Sergey Sirotkin will race for ISR in Formula Renault 3.5 next year

The Russian teenager, who finished third in Auto GP and fifth in Italian Formula 3 in 2012, is the Czech team's first signing for next season.

Sirotkin had a taste of FR3.5 machinery earlier this year when he made a one-off appearance on home soil at Moscow Raceway for BVM Target, and he returned to the category for post-season testing.

"ISR has shown many times that it is an excellent place for a driver to work for his career, and I intend to make the most of this opportunity," he said.

"It has all come together so quickly. This is, however, the moment that all young drivers are working towards, and I am determined to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can."

Team boss Igor Salaquarda added that Sirotkin had performed well in post-season testing for a 17-year-old. His best performance was going seventh quickest on day one at Aragon.

"We had a few opportunities to test Sergey during the winter and he was part of our shortlist for 2013," he said.

"Despite his very young age he already has some good experience with powerful cars with interesting results.

"The team has been impressed after these tests and both parties agreed quickly for 2013."

ISR fought for the FR3.5 championship in 2012, taking two wins with Mercedes Formula 1 test driver Sam Bird.
