Alguersuari eyes WSR over GP2
British Formula 3 champion Jaime Alguersuari says he would rather move into Formula Renault 3.5 next season than graduate straight to GP2
The 18-year-old became the youngest ever British F3 champion this year and believes he is more likely to challenge for another title in 2009 in the World Series than in GP2.
"Hopefully I will be doing World Series with Carlin and I think it's a good decision," he told Autosport. "In GP2 I had three teams to choose from - Arden, Trident and Ocean and, to be honest, they are teams that are not bad, but they are not the first row.
"I was British F3 champion in my first year and we want to continue the progression, we don't want to be a little bit down. For sure I'm not going to win GP2 in the first year, but we need to have results and I think in World Series you can do it because the championship is more narrow.
"I think it's a good choice with Carlin and hopefully we can win it."
Alguersuari is expected to be joined at Carlin by one of his F3 teammates from this year, Oliver Turvey, if the Briton does not land the second GP2 seat at iSport.
