Punta del Este Formula E test: Stephane Sarrazin fastest in Uruguay

Stephane Sarrazin was quickest for Venturi as Formula E held its first in-season test on the Punta del Este street track in Uruguay on Sunday

The day of running at the venue used for the series' third ePrix on Saturday was the first time FE had been able to test away from the championship's Donington Park base.

Ex-Toro Rosso Formula 1 driver Jean-Eric Vergne, who came close to winning on his FE debut this weekend, topped the morning session for Andretti Autosport with a lap of 1m14.975s.

That put him 0.262 seconds clear of championship leader Lucas di Grassi's Abt car, with Jaime Alguersuari third for Virgin.

Vergne was only able to participate in the first session before leaving Punta del Este, but his time still held up for fifth overall even at the end of the faster afternoon session.

Sarrazin improved the benchmark time to a 1m14.649s in the afternoon, 0.157s ahead of Saturday's race winner Sebastien Buemi in the e.dams entry.

Nelson Piquet Jr followed up his maiden FE podium in the race by completing the top three, with Sarrazin's team-mate Nick Heidfeld fourth.

Piquet's China Racing team also gave Esteban Guerrieri a brief run during the test.

The 29-year-old Formula Renault 3.5 and Indy Lights race winner has spent this season racing in Super TC2000 in his native Argentina.
