Promoted: Formula E and Modis offer technology work placement

Formula E has teamed up with professional IT and engineering solutions company Modis to offer a fully-paid work placement with the electric championship's Head of Technology

FE and Modis have launched a competition to find the Innovation Manager, who will be tasked with implementing new technology for the series' event management systems during the six-month placement.

The successful candidate will work alongside FE's new Head of Technology Eric Ernst at the championship's central London headquarters.

"I personally think that part of Formula E's DNA is to think outside of the box," said Ernst.

"I hope the Innovation Manager can support us in finding a great and efficient way to organise the delivery of our event from a technology point of view."

FE, which heads into its new era in the 2018/19 championship when the dramatic-design Gen2 cars enter competitive service, is hoping the dynamic Innovation Manager will help create an innovative software platform to improve its event management systems.

The start-up championship is entering an exciting new phase due to the technology steps the new cars represent.

It is also an extremely attractive championship for famous motorsport marques and electric vehicle specialists - it currently has nine manufacturers building state-of-the-art powertrain systems, a number that will rise to 11 when motor racing giants Mercedes and Porsche join for the 2019/20 season.

"This is a once in a life time opportunity to work with Formula E," said Rodrigo Garza, Global Branding and Sponsoring lead at Modis' parent company The Adecco Group.

"Formula E is a truly exciting environment - and this unique individual will have the opportunity to work amongst the very best engineers in the world.

"Working in their London offices with the Head of Technology, the successful candidate will join a unique team of experts, supporting the innovation for Formula E."

The competition is open to a broad range of suitable candidates - particularly self-starters, drivers of change, problem solvers and great communicators with at least basic knowledge of computer science.

In experience terms, the desired applicants should have completed one-to-three years in the industry, but candidates finishing university or switching from other fields will also be considered.

The application process will initially involve three 15-minute psychometric tests designed to assess behaviour, numeracy and logical thinking - with intelligent problem-solvers keenly sought for the role - before a second interview stage.

"I am very excited to see the profiles that have made the selection process," added Ernst.

"For sure a selection process for such a role is not straightforward. However, I have full confidence that Modis has the tools in place to find what we are looking for."

Applications close on July 1 and the winner will be announced at the New York E-Prix on July 15 - with the inaugural Innovation Manager starting work with FE on September 1 and the placement lasting until the end of February 2019.

The successful Innovation Manager will receive a competitive salary and travel to the first two rounds of the 2018/19 championship - a chance to learn how their solutions would serve FE's fast-paced and bustling events.

"The main overarching context is that Formula E needs to innovate in the way that they manage events with technology," said Garza.

"So, the successful candidate needs to introduce tools, systems, software - they need to introduce a new ecosystem of technology to run the events better as the competition is to manage everything much better.

"Formula E hired Eric and they are really investing in technology because they believe it is a key part of the success of the championship."

If you think you have what it takes to excel in the world of e-mobility and highly-competitive motorsport - apply before July 1 via the Modis website.
