Podcast: The big impact COVID-19 could have on FE

Formula E was moments away from bankruptcy in only its fifth race in Miami back in March 2015

Series founder Alejandro Agag was briefly out a job and even had to resort to using his own money to cover the costs of freight.

Wind on five years and FE has since welcomed automotive behemoths Mercedes and Porsche to join the likes of Audi, BMW, Nissan and Jaguar on the grid.

Over recent seasons the series has become a strong and disruptive force.

But rather than exist to make a profit, revenue was ploughed into promotion and marketing to boost the series' profile.

Now the FE season has been suspended for two months amid the coronavirus pandemic, could those monetary woes re-merge for the comparatively young series?

In the latest Current Affairs podcast, host Matt Kew is joined by Autosport Grand Prix Editor Alex Kalinauckas to discuss the impact that a truncated calendar might have on FE's economic security.

They also review some of the good news stories to emerge from the electric paddock in recent weeks - namely the efforts from the Envision Group and BMW FE driver Alexander Sims - and how those involved have made efforts to provide relief and help in some way to combat the COVID-19 spread.
