Lucas di Grassi wants Abt Formula E team to continue to take risks
Formula E championship leader Lucas di Grassi wants his Abt Audi Sport team to continue taking risks in order to keep his "dream" title bid going
Di Grassi lost his Mexico City victory last month after one of his cars was found to be 1.8kg under the weight limit, but moved into a one-point lead over Sebastien Buemi with victory in Long Beach.
Abt took responsibility for being too aggressive with its weight calculations, also citing a battery and seatbelt change, and di Grassi says it should not be scared into being conservative.
"It's been a dream championship far and I'm glad to have such a professional team behind me," he told Autosport.
"The team has done a fantastic job, from the point of view of equipment, pace, reliability, pitstops.
"We had one mistake, which was Mexico and was not a mistake - we were pushing the limits.
"Racing is about that. We will keep our mindset, we will keep pushing - be very close to the weight and try to get any advantage we can.
"If we keep pushing we will try to do some damage on the perfect car that Renault has."
Di Grassi has finished in the top three on-track at all six races so far in 2015/16, and his Long Beach success took him to three on-the-road victories.
That is despite the Brazilian insisting the Abt Schaeffler FE01 is still inferior to the Renault e.dams Z.E.15 in the hands of chief title rival Buemi.
Di Grassi says overcoming that opposition will depend on his team maximising errors, such as Buemi's poor qualifying performances or his crash with Robin Frijns in Long Beach.
"Renault has an advantage, of course," he reiterated. "At some tracks it's bigger than others but they are beatable if they don't do a good job.
"I always can do more as a driver and there is progress during the championship.
"You can change the set-up of the car, you can optimise it. There was a massive difference last season between races with the same cars for everyone.
"They are still going to have the best car but we are going to try and do the best job in the last few races."
