Formula E carries out Los Angeles demo run ahead of planned race

Formula E staged a demonstration run on the streets of Los Angeles on Monday, ahead of its planned race in the city in 2014

LA was included on a list of eight cities submitted to the FIA to host races in the championship's inaugural season next year.

London, Rome, Miami, Beijing, Putrajaya, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro were also listed.

Ten races are planned for 2014, although the final two destinations are yet to be announced.

Ex-Formula 1 pilot and Formula E test driver Lucas di Grassi demonstrated the car, which was adorned with an American flag design, along Hope Street.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Formula E showcased the growing importance Los Angeles placed on electric vehicles and technology.

"By hosting Formula E Championship races here, we ensure our place as a leader in the charge to generate awareness for electric vehicles and their benefits," Mayor Villaraigosa said.

"By selecting Los Angeles as the site of their championship races, Formula E Holdings brings international attention to our city's electric vehicle infrastructure programs and increased tourism revenue to our city."

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E Holdings, added: "Los Angeles' iconic landmarks provide a perfect backdrop to bring to life the excitement of Formula E racing, while at the same time, inspiring people to believe in the electric vehicle for their own personal use."
