Formula E car to hit track in November, 'well-known' drivers in line

The all-new Formula E car is expected to begin testing in November this year, with production to start next January

According to Formula E boss Alejandro Agag, the Spark-Renault SRT_01E will be crash tested in the coming weeks, before a series of initial on-track tests at undisclosed locations in France in November.

The first public images of the new car in action on-track are expected to be released in January, which will coincide with the start of production.

"At first, testing will be to see if there are any structural problems with the chassis or anything like that," said Agag.

"That's our first aim. After that, when there are no major problems, we will start doing race duration testing and simulations. Production will start for the race cars will most likely start in January."

Current development driver Lucas di Grassi will kick-off the testing programme, with other drivers expected to join in on the on-track action as well.

"We are talking with different drivers, and we will make a list of drivers that are in our driver programme public soon," added Agag.

"They will test the car, and after that it's up to the teams to sign drivers. But we have a good number of well-known names."
