FIA president Jean Todt says Formula E could race at Macau

Formula E could race on the streets of Macau in the future according to FIA President Jean Todt

The all-electric series has targeted city races for its inaugural campaign next year, with Berlin, Rome and London all set to host events.

Macau hosts its famous Formula 3 Grand Prix annually in mid-November, which fits with Formula E's 2014-15 calendar split.

Todt says Macau is a logical destination for the series to explore.

"It would make sense because it is in the city," Todt said when asked by AUTOSPORT
if Macau could host Formula E. "It is something we would consider, yes.

"First though we are going to start with Hong Kong, and then it is something which
can be addressed. It is up to the promoter to discuss with the federation.

"I do believe in electric cars in the cities, and that is why this championship will happen specifically in 10 important cities around the world."

EXCITING PROSPECT

Todt said the series' numerous unknown qualities had given it a strong early following among fans, but said he was remaining cautious about how Formula E will be received once the series gets underway.

"What is fascinating is the interest in a new championship," he added. "Everybody has
to learn: the competitors, the FIA, the promoters, the commercial partners.

"We must be careful because I really hope the interest is followed by a strong realisation of it.

"The names [of the confirmed teams] will definitely help to create the interest.
"But for me the most fascinating thing is the question marks: how will people react,
what will be the noise, how spectacular will it be?

"It is something we don't know and we have to be careful to create a good expectation.

"It is also environmentally friendly, which is very important because motorsport has
to follow the evolution of society. Formula E is part of this development.

"It is a very exciting new category, a vision for the future."
