Bangkok revealed as ninth candidate city on 2014 Formula E calendar

Thailand's capital city could also host Formula 1 in 2015 after local authorities approved the layout for a proposed circuit last month.

Bangkok has joined a list of candidate cities that includes London, Rome, Los Angeles, Miami, Beijing, Putrajaya, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.

Following the Bangkok announcement, only one slot is left to be filled in the provisional 10-round schedule for the series for electric cars.

"We are delighted to be here in Bangkok today and are very thankful to the Thai authorities for their enthusiastic welcome," said Formula E promoter Alejandro Agag.

"We have been very impressed with Thailand's commitment to cleaner energy and sustainable motoring, as well as their rising motorsport programme, and a Formula E race through this amazing city would provide a great spectacle together with a considerable boost to tourism."

The announcement comes a day after the series unveiled new images of its car and confirmed that Renault has signed up as a technical partner.
