The alliance between Prost and DAMS founder Jean-Paul Driot will run under the e.dams name.

The team was launched in an event at the L'Atelier Renault on the Champs-Elysees in Paris on Thursday evening.

Formula E explained

"I am very happy to be a part of the Formula E adventure," said Prost.

"Being able to actively participate in the development of this new technology, which is 100 per cent electric is extremely motivating.

"As we've seen in other championships, 2014 will see a move towards more sustainable racing, proving more than ever that motorsport is the benchmark for the future."

e.dams joins IndyCar squads Andretti Autosport and Dragon Racing, new operation China Racing and hybrid sportscar pioneer Drayson Racing in the line-up for FE's debut season.

The FIA's electric series, which takes place exclusively on city street tracks, commences in September 2014.
