Walker Takes Surprise First Win

Jerseyman James Walker took a surprise first win in Formula Three at the first of today's rounds at the Nurburgring in Germany

Walker led home his Fortec Motorsport teammate Mike Conway after taking advantage of the typical first-corner shambles.

With several runners forced wide at the first right-hander, and a very slow start by Championship leader and pole-sitter Alvaro Parente, Walker was in just the right place to nip alongside Conway exiting the turn. He then held on round the outside of the following left-hander and controlled the rest of the race.

Conway was unable to exert much pressure on his teammate, and had more concerns from Parente behind him. Although Parente did get alongside him once but couldn't make the move stick.

This trio was clear of Danilo Dirani's Lola for most of the race, but the Brazilian did close on them towards the flag.

Marko Asmer ran out of brakes at the first corner and had to make do with recovering to sixth behind Hitech Racing teammate Tim Bridgman.

Parente could still seal the Championship later today after Charlie Kimball could only manage seventh place. Further down the field, Mexican Salvador Duran won the National Class category.
