Vergne charges to race two win

Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne took a stunning victory in the reversed-grid British Formula 3 race at Spa this afternoon

Race one winner Vergne started seventh for the eight-lap event, but a great opening tour took him to second, right on the gearbox of Raikkonen Robertson's Felipe Nasr. The Carlin driver swept ahead at the start of lap two to take the lead before going on to score his eighth win of the year.

Nasr demonstrated good pace by holding on to the leader and setting the fastest lap, the leading pair pulling well clear of Fortec's Daniel McKenzie. Rupert Svendsen-Cook (Carlin) had made a great start from fifth to briefly snatch third, but a moment on the first lap dropped him back, leaving McKenzie to complete the podium.

James Calado took fourth for Carlin after starting sixth, while Vergne's title rival Oliver Webb (Fortec) finished fifth, having never had the pace to challenge those ahead. He just held off a charging Carlos Munoz, the Mucke Motorsport driver being the best of the Euro Series contingent.

Svendsen-Cook recovered to seventh, aided by the late retirement of Carlin's Lucas Foresti, while Adriano Buzaid (Carlin) and Carlos Huertas (Raikkonen Robertson) went out after a clash just before half-distance.
