Van der Zande quits British F3
British Formula 3 frontrunner Renger van der Zande has quit the series ahead of the 2009 season finale at Brands Hatch this weekend
The Dutchman, who has won three races in British F3 this year and lies second in the standings, will instead race for Motopark Academy in the F3 Euro Series round at Barcelona.
Van der Zande was drafted in by Hitech Racing from the second round of this season to aid Walter Grubmuller's British F3 title challenge, but with the championship having been settled in favour of Carlin's Daniel Ricciardo in the penultimate round at the new Algarve circuit last weekend, van der Zande will now move on.
The team has confirmed his vacant seat will not be filled for the two races at Brands and this will also give Grubmuller the opportunity to make up a 10-point deficit to van der Zande in the standings and secure second place in the championship.
Van der Zande said: "I have enjoyed my time in British F3 and I want to thank Hitech for giving me the chance to race. It is a great, historic series where many top drivers have won and for me to have got three victories and nine podiums not having done the full season, I am very happy.
"That said I am really looking forward to getting back to the F3 Euro Series, a championship that I know and have enjoyed a lot of success in.
"I drove for Motopark in Oschersleben this year and it is a great team. I hope to be back on the pace straightaway, but it is never easy joining a series during the season."
