Thruxton race 2: Green keeps it clean

The Carlin driver ran fourth in the early running, behind Fairuz Fauzy (Promatecme), championship leader Alan van der Merwe and pole-sitter Eric Salignon (Hitech). Salignon, recovering from a poor start, soon squeezed past van der Merwe at the chicane, and set off in search of the race leader, finally passing Fauzy into the chicane on lap five.

Fauzy was able to stay with his adversary until, on lap seven, he appeared to lose a chunk of front downforce heading into the Village complex and slid off the track, from where he could only recover to 18th at the finish. This allowed van der Merwe to resume his pursuit of the leader.

The pair battled until lap 11, when van der Merwe attempted to pass into the chicane. In an incident that both blamed the other for, the two made contact, eliminating both from the race. Van der Merwe hurt his left wrist in the crash, which required a trip to hospital for X-Rays, although it seems that no lasting damage was done.

This promoted Green to the lead, although under some pressure from Adam Carroll. The Menu Motorsport star attempted a brave move around the outside of Green into the chicane, although he appeared to misjudge his braking and spun, allowing Will Power (Diamond) through to claim second. Carroll finished third, with Ronnie Bremer fourth.

Race one winner Robert Dahlgren (Fortec) had a complete reversal of fortune in the second event, crashing out of the race after contact with Billy Asaro (P1 Motorsport) on the very first lap. Meanwhile, Nelson Piquet Jr (Piquet Sport) ended his indifferent weekend with a 12th place finish, after he spun midway through the event.

Ernesto Viso (P1 Motorsport) made up for the troubles which cost him a likely win in race one by completely dominating the Scholarship Class. Steven Kane (T-Sport) came home second.
