Spa back on British series calendar
The famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit will host a round of the British Formula 3 championship next year, having been off the calendar since 2000.
The provisional championship calendar reveals that F3 will return to the Belgian circuit for the first time since 2001, when Spa hosted an international non-championship race. The F3 race will be held on August 30/31, the date on which the Belgian Grand Prix was due to take place before it was dropped from the Formula 1 calendar.
Championship organiser, the British Racing Drivers' Club, have also introduced a three race format for nine of the 12 rounds to be held in 2003. The Scholarship and Championship classes will each have their own separate races, before combining for a feature race. Both classes will also have separate qualifying sessions.
For the combined feature race, the Scholarship class runners will line up behind all the Championship class entries, ending the possibility of giant-killing qualifying positions for the older cars.
The BRDC has also announced that, subject to the agreement of governing bodies and teams, they are to investigate the possibility of holding the final race of the year on Rockingham's oval circuit.
