Russian Time hoping to enter GP3 from 2014
New GP2 squad Russian Time is working towards entering GP3 from 2014
The team took over iSport's GP2 entry at the start of the season and has already racked up three wins, putting it third in the teams' championship.
Team principal Igor Mazepa has confirmed to AUTOSPORT that he is now in discussions with GP2 and GP3 boss Bruno Michel about entering the latter championship.
The team would need special dispensation to lodge an entry given GP3 will be entering the second season of its three-year cycle in 2014.
"The plan is to enter brand new team, not to buy any of current ones," Mazepa explained.
"We're ready to guarantee our participation until the end of 2015 [when the current cycle finishes] or even for three years.
"GP3 is very important for us as it fills the gap between Formula VW 1600 [ADAC Formel Masters] and German F3 on one hand, and GP2 on another.
"We understand well how difficult that task is, but we hope to find a solution with the help of GP3 bosses.
"Russian Time hasn't disappointed in GP2, where we have had a string of solid results, so we hope for success in our conversations."
Mazepa added that he was still committed to working with Russian drivers, but refused to be drawn on names.
"We aim to sign young Russians, but I can't reveal anything more just now," he said.
"Our task is to prepare five cars [two in GP2 and three in GP3] in the best possible way.
"We're ready to give a place to everyone who is ready - the only significant factor for us is Russian licence."
