Race 1 qual: Lapierre turns the tables

After being outpaced by championship leader Ryan Briscoe in the qualifying session for the second F3 Euroseries race of the weekend at Pau, Nicolas Lapierre turned the tables on his Australian rival, claiming pole for today's (Sunday) first race

The Frenchman watched Briscoe set a benchmark time of 1m12.271s in the first qualifying session, which was again split into two groups, before heading out in the second session to set a pole winning lap of 1m11.999s.

"It is my first pole in the F3 Euroseries so I am very happy," said the local favourite. "For sure I would like to win one of the two races."

If Briscoe was disappointed not to claim pole, he didn't show it. "This second position is perfect for me," he said. "The most important thing is to score points for the championship."

The duo of Olivier Pla and Alexandre Premat annexed the second row for the ASM team, ahead of Brazilian Fabio Carbone and Dutchman Robert Doombos.
