Race 1: Lapierre wins

Nicolas Lapierre grabbed a last-gasp win in the penultimate Formula 3 Euroseries round to deny Austrian Hannes Neuhauser an unexpected debut victory

Race 1: Lapierre wins

A wet but drying track threw up an unusual grid order, and HBR driver Neuhauser took full advantage to take second on the grid. But this was no fluke and after trailing pole sitter Lapierre over the opening laps, he snatched the lead with a bold move going into the hairpin.

Lapierre made Neuhauser work for his lead, but he was relentless in his defence. Alas, with just two laps to go his engine began to sound sick and he could not stop Lapierre out-dragging him into the hairpin on the last lap. Still second place was a great result.

Briton Lewis Hamilton made up for a poor start to produce a battling drive to take another podium, while his Manor Motorsport team-mate Charles Zwolsman put in is best showing of the year to finish fourth. Robert Kubica had an eventful race but came through the carnage that surrounded him to claim fifth. Franck Perera did his rookie of the year title chances a power of good with sixth ahead of Kolles newboy Maxi Gotz and Alex Margaritis - who stormed up from 25th on the grid.
