Qualifying: Double pole for Piquet Jr

The Brazilian set the pace in qualifying for race one with a best time of 1m44.502s to claim the top spot from Robert Dahlgren by 0.156s. In the second session, Piquet Jr lapped the circuit in 1m44.039s, edging championship leader Alan van der Merwe for the pole.

Danny Watts was third fastest in qualifying for race one, ahead of Carlin driver Richard Antinucci and Menu Motorsport's Adam Carroll. Van der Merwe could only manage the sixth fastest time, although he did better than team-mate Jamie Green, who struggled to 12th on the grid.

Van der Merwe picked up his pace in qualifying for race two, and was only 0.141s behind Piquet Jr. Antinucci improved to third, ahead of Rob Austin, Carroll and Watts. Green's form improved somewhat, the Briton rising to seventh on the grid. However, Dahlgren suffered a disastrous downturn in form, only setting the 17th fastest time.

In the Scholarship class, T-Sport driver Karun Chandhok imitated Piquet Jr by claiming pole for both races, with Ernesto Viso trailing him on both occasions.
