Qualifying 2: Series leader doubles up
There seems to be no stopping Alan van der Merwe at the moment - the British Formula 3 Championship points leader made it two poles from two at Snetterton this afternoon (Saturday)
His time of 1m01.678s was just a fraction faster than Nelson Angelo Piquet, whose performance was all the more impressive given that he missed most of testing yesterday after an off track excursion.
Speaking of crashes, third fastest qualifier Jamie Green brought the session to a premature end with a massive accident at the ultra-quick Riches corner. He was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after his car rolled, but is not hurt.
There was extensive damage to his car which needed three new corners, floors, airbox and front and rear wings but the Carlin crew were confident that the work would be completed before tomorrow's races.
Rob Austin was fourth quickest in his Opel-powered Menu-run Dallara, ahead of the third Carlin entry of Ronnie Bremer. Adam Carroll slipped back to seventh in the Lola-Dome, having qualified fifth for the opening race tomorrow, while Christian England climbed to eighth overall in his Scholarship class car, as Richard Antinucci, third in the first session, could only manage 10th overall for the second race after a collision with Eric Salignon.
