Qualifying 1: Kerr moves nearer title
Robbie Kerr moved a step closer to claiming the 2002 British F3 title by grabbing pole position for race one of this weekend's season finale double header at Donington
Kerr left it late, however, and it was only on his final lap that he found sufficient speed to dislodge Bruce Jouanny from the top slot the Frenchman had held for most of the session. The difference was a mere 0.01s, but with title rival James Courtney - who has to beat Kerr in both races to lift the championship - back in fifth, Kerr is perfectly poised.
Courtney's session was interrupted by a head gasket problem with his Mugen-Honda-powered car, but the Australian still managed to complete almost as many laps as Kerr.
Testing pacesetter Heikki Kovalainen will line up third, just ahead of Courtney's Carlin team-mate Alan van der Merwe.
It was a relatively incident free session with the exception of Menu Motorsport's Stefan de Groot, who damaged his Dallara after an off. That left the Dutchman back in 12th, one place ahead of Scholarship poleman Rob Dahlgren.
