Qualifying 1: Jouanny quickest
Bruce Jouanny put the traumas of his 2001 160mph Thruxton horror crash behind him to grab pole for Sunday's 23rd round of the British Formula 3 Championship at the circuit
It was the Promatecme driver's first F3 pole and it boosts his hopes of tying down third place in this year's championship.
Points leader Robbie Kerr is well placed with second quickest time and he is split from title rival James Courtney by Heikki Kovalainen.
Courtney ran in tandem with Carlin Motorsport team-mate Alan van der Merwe as the pair tried to tow each other to quicker times on the high-speed Thruxton track. The result was fourth on the grid for Courtney and eighth for van der Merwe
Menu Motorsport's Stefan de Groot and Rob Austin appeared to be the only other drivers to try the same ploy and they wound up fifth and seventh, with de Groot the quicker.
Michael Keohane returned in style after the sad death of his father to set sixth fastest time. He had been out of the cockpit since July.
Robert Dahlgren in ninth place overall was the best of the Scholarship class runners.
