Qualifying 1: Green takes pole

The BRDC McLaren AUTOSPORT award winner headed up an impressive display from Carlin Motorsport, which claimed three of the top four times. American Richard Antinucci was second, with Ronnie Bremer and Alan van der Merwe in fourth and fifth positions. Rob Austin was the only interloper, putting his Menu Motorsport Dallara into third position.

It wasn't just the performance of Jamie Green that caused an upset in the qualifying session. Nelson Piquet Jr set the fourth fastest time in the session, the first British F3 race for the Brazilian and his Piquet Sports team. However, his team was later disallowed, as the stewards found that his brake duct plate exceeded the maximum measurements allowed. Piquet Jr will thus be unable to start tomorrow's race, as he was classified as the last of the 31 cars in the session. There is only enough room for 30 cars to start the race at the track.

Ernesto Viso was the fastest of the scholarship class runners, and will start the race ninth overall. Meritus Racing driver Ivor McCullough was the second fastest runner in the class.
