Pizzonia wins again
Antonio Pizzonia won round 7a of the British Formula 3 championship with a dominant drive at Donington Park yesterday (Saturday)
In a race that started off with a damp and tricky track, the Brazilian led from the lights to the chequered flag without making a single mistake.
Italian Gianmaria Bruni was second. Takuma Sato, Narain Karthikeyan, Milos Pavlovic and Nicolas Kiesa rounded off the top six.
Andrew Kirkaldy, who had qualified second and had looked good for a podium finish at least, made contact with Bruni at Redgate corner leaving the Scot to finish down in 14th.
The win, Pizzonia's fourth this season, now means he has a commanding lead in the championship. His closest rival Tomas Schecketer suffered a disaster before the race had even started. The South African tangled with another car on the parade lap and he pitted to have a replacement nose fitted, costing him valuable time and places. He finished last, one lap down.
Pizzonia leads the championship with 131 points, with the second-placed Scheckter on 91.
The next round of the championship is this afternoon as the Donington circuit completes its double header.
