Pau 1: Premat home and dry

Alexandre Premat won a chaotic Formula 3 Euroseries race at Pau, but with yet another podium finish, Jamie Green once more extended his championship lead

Fine rain began to fall just as the cars ventured out for the parade lap ahead of race one. By the time they crossed the line again it was far heavier and the decision was made to start the race after three laps behind the safety car to allow the drivers to assess track conditions.

Three laps was clearly not enough for pole man Eric Salignon, who entered turn one of the race proper at probably twice the speed he needed to make the turn. A shunt was inevitable, and the Frenchman whipped the entire left rear off his ASM car.

This left his team-mates Premat and Green out front. Further carnage took place in the pack, and by the end of lap two, the only people capable of stopping the leading duo was themselves. But they kept their composure and duly rattled off the shortened race.

Nicolas Lapierre passed Robert Kubica on lap two for third, where he remained until the end. Kubica clung onto fourth, while fifth went to an inspired Lewis Hamilton, who drove his best race of the season to charge up from 12th. Fellow Brit Tom Kimber-Smith clashed with Kolles team-mate Adrian Sutil and finished as the last of the unlapped runners.
