Parente Wins after Gripping Battle
Alvaro Parente and Charlie Kimball provided one of the best lead battles in recent British F3 history, but it was Parente who came out on top of the all-Carlin Motorsport battle at Monza today
The Portuguese driver outgunned the American pole-sitter at the start of the race and held what looked like a comfortable lead until Kimball began to attack at two-thirds distance. Parente's defence couldn't hold as Kimball used the slipstream to good effect and drove around him on the start-finish straight starting the penultimate lap.
The pair then traded places thrice in the next three corners before Parente reclaimed the lead for good. Kimball got alongside him one more time before a small mistake exiting Lesmo put paid to his chances on the last lap.
Danilo Dirani (driving a P1 Motorsport Lola) scored his first podium since his double win at Donington Park, coming in third ahead of Mike Conway (Fortec Motorsport). Steven Kane, Marko Asmer, Tim Bridgman, Dan Clarke, James Walker and Ryan Lewis all retired in a variety of accidents.
