Mortara takes pole at Zandvoort

Edoardo Mortara led a Signature 1-2 in Formula 3 Euro Series qualifying at Zandvoort on Friday

The championship leader finished the session 0.2 seconds clear of his team-mate and title pursuer Marco Wittmann, who got stronger as qualifying progressed to jump onto the front row.

Valtteri Bottas, who won the F3 Masters at this track earlier in the year, was in the battle for pole but had to settle for third.

Just behind him, Laurens Vanthoor made sure all three Signature cars are on the first two rows of the grid by taking fourth.

Alexander Sims was next up in the second ART entry, but the British driver brought out a red flag with a crash in the closing seconds of the session.

The top six was completed by Prema Powerteam's Nicolas Marroc, who enjoyed his best qualifying performance of the season, just ahead of Roberto Merhi and Daniel Juncadella.
